Visionary. Alchemist. Savior. Saint. The Prophet Zarathustra has been called many things. Now he spends his time drawing pictures of weird-looking goats. That's what happens when you've been stuck in a prison cell for two hundred years. But the man who might be mad, and is definitely supposed to be dead, has suddenly become very valuable again… It's only been a few weeks since Nazafareen escaped the King's dungeons with her daeva, Darius. She hoped never to set foot in the empire again, but the search for the Prophet has led them to the ancient city of Karnopolis. They have to find him before Alexander of Macydon burns Persepolae, and Darius's mother with it. But they're not the only ones looking. The necromancer Balthazar has his own plans for the Prophet, and so does the sinister spymaster of the Numerators. As Nazafareen is drawn in to a dangerous game of cat and mouse, her newfound powers take a decidedly dark turn. Only the Prophet understands the secret of her gift, but the price of that knowledge may turn out to be more than Nazafareen is willing to pay…

The words which pop up in my mind when thinking about this book: captivating, reading frenzy, great writing style, lovable heroine with very human flaws, beautiful very believable descriptions of the landscape. If you love epic stories, good developed characters, a heroine with flaws this is the book you absolutely have to read this book. It is the second book in the series. If you have not done so you should read the first in the series first to better understand everything what's going on in the second book.I highly recommend this book. This author has captivated my heart with her writing style and I have added her to my favorite authors. That's why I give this book 5 stars.

Blood of the Prophet The Fourth Element Volume 2 Kat Ross 9780997236231 Books Reviews
I just needed something to read on my while nursing my nine month old. Thanks to Bookbub I get free deals on books. “The Midnight Sea” was one of them. Then I got hooked, loved the characters, read all of her books in the following series, and am now emotionally bereft because I’m waiting for the next book. It took awhile to find something else to fill that void. Still looking. #dontpullaGeorgeRRMartin
I enjoyed the continuation of nazafareen and her friends. The author did a great job maintaining build up and giving the reader morsels of information to keep you wanting more. There is much hardship for our characters in this one, but there is also hope. The mc and her love interest are slow going as well (something I'm a bit bummed about), but I expect it'll get better in book three. The ending left a great starting point for the next book and I am eager to read it. I will say though, as goes with most middle of the series books, it was a bit slow with too much filler in the first half.
The story of Nazafareen and her daeva Darius stayed with me for a long time after I finished it, unlike many other books you forget the moment you read them.
Although the Blood of the Prophet didn't quite equal the Midnight Sea, I enjoyed it just the same. Maybe it was because I had become familiar with this strange other world, with daeva's, waterdogs, bonding, druj, and wights, and I had gotten to know the characters, and knew most of their names.
I just bought the third book in the trilogy and can't wait to start reading.
I can highly recommend this awesome author Kat Ross.
This is actually a review of the three books of the Fourth Element trilogy (The Midnight Sea, Blood of the Prophet, Queen of Chaos) and the two (so far) books of the Dominion series (The Daemoniac, The Thirteenth Gate), so I am posting this on all five books. I read a lot, but rarely write reviews. In most cases I think it's all been said already, and I'd rather read than write. But I think these books are a unique case. I think Ms. Ross has done a marvellous job of blending real (though altered) history and actual places with mythology and the fantasy and magical elements. It was fun for me to pick out the realities, myths, and allusions in the stories. And as a Sherlock Holmes fan, I really like the way the Dominion series ties the Sherlock Holmes canon, New York City, the gaslight Victorian era, and the fantasy of the Fourth Element series together. I first read the Dominion series books, then the Fourth Element Trilogy. That worked okay, but I recommend reading the Fourth Element trilogy first because some things in the second series will be more clear and relevant. I highly recommend reading all of these. When Ms. Ross adds to these, I will be buying.
This one was pretty cool. I fell in love with the first book hard enough to be a little more than crazy over the world Ross created, and I was glad to see this continue in Blood of the Prophet. The whole story revolves around our main crew looking for the Prophet and stopping a war from starting. It was a little less adventurous than the first and concentrated mainly on the politics of war and the largest city in the nation. I liked the depth of the detail and its society, and the humor that never failed to make me smile. A few more light-hearted scenes were in here, which I greatly appreciated, as it kept me interested where I found myself wandering during other people's POVs.
Blood of the Prophet has less action compared to the first book. Nazafareen and her friends spend a lot of time waiting and planning during their mission to find the Prophet.
The story also occasionally switches to Balthazar's POV. I enjoyed going into his mind and discovering his past. Understanding his thirst for knowledge and learning about his relationship with the evil queen.
For me, I wish this story moved a little faster. Some areas could of been condensed or omitted. Nazafareen's actions in certain parts of the story also annoyed me. I still look forward to reading the next book. Hopefully book 3 will have more weight.
** spoiler alert ** I just finished this after procrastinating for a week expecting a terrible cliffhanger that, luckily, did not come. Of course, I am already curled up in bed w the ready to start the final installment of the series, but what kind of selfish human being would I be if I didn't take a minute to write down some spoilers.
I enjoyed the twist in this book, the knowledge that not only was the prophet alive but that the Daeva's weren't Druj AND Victor was friends with the Prophet 200 yrs ago. I will admit that those memories of Tommas, when they hit Nazafareen, which wasn't nearly as often as one would expect, hit a little harder because of it. Tommas was good people and I am still not over the fact that he died though I have not shed a single tear for Ilyas. Yes, I'm still on that. And on that note, I hate that Myrri died even more than I hated Tomma's death probably because I got to spend more time with Myrri and I hate what her death is doing to Tijah, but I have hope that her future will brighten with the new Daeva, Achaemenes. He is a lot like Mirry was, but where she was like a twin sister in some ways, I think Achaemenes could be more, Like Nazafareen and Darius are to each other. I am very much looking forward to what book 3 will bring not just for the characters I already know and LOVE but also for characters like Delilah whom we've spent so little time with and Achaemenes who already earned a place in my heart.
